Catholic Life and Mission

At St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, our Catholic faith is the foundation of everything we do. We are proud to be a vibrant, inclusive, and spiritually nurturing community where every child is encouraged to grow in faith, love and learning.

Our Mission Statement

Joyfully, we at St. Augustine’s Catholic School, celebrate our love for God, our love for ourselves and our love for each other as we play, learn and pray together.

This mission is lived out daily in our classrooms, playgrounds, assemblies and wider school life. It guides our relationships, our curriculum and our commitment to pastoral care.

Our Vision

"To be the best we can be"

We believe that every child is a unique gift from God, with their own talents and potential. Our vision inspires us to help each child flourish spiritually, intellectually, socially and emotionally. We aim high, celebrate achievements and support one another in becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Faith in Action

  • Prayer and Worship: Prayer is central to our school life. Children are invited to pray and worship in class, across key stages and as a whole school, creating meaningful opportunities for reflection, celebration and spiritual growth.

  • Celebrating the Liturgical Year: We mark key moments in the Church calendar with Masses, assemblies and special events, helping children understand and engage with their faith.

  • Charity and Service: Inspired by Gospel values, we encourage children to serve others through fundraising, community outreach and acts of kindness.
  • Religious Education (RE): Our RE curriculum is rich and engaging, helping children explore their faith and understand the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Pastoral Care: As highlighted in our recent S48 Inspection (Nov 2023), pastoral care at St. Augustine’s is outstanding. We nurture the whole child, ensuring they feel safe, valued and supported.

Our Patron and House Saints

St. Augustine of Canterbury is the patron saint of our school. As a missionary and the first Archbishop of Canterbury, he reminds us of the importance of courage, faith and spreading the love of Christ.

Our house saints inspire our pupils to live out Gospel values in their daily lives:

  • St. Bernadette – Faith and humility
  • St. Francis – Peace and care for creation
  • St. Paul – Courage and sharing God's love
  • St. Teresa of Calcutta – Compassion and service

Each house saint represents a unique path to holiness and helps our children grow in virtue and character.

Living Our Values

Our school vision, “To be the best we can be”, is more than just words—it’s a way of life. Staff and pupils work together to create a loving and respectful environment where everyone is encouraged to grow in faith and character.

Partnership with Families and Parish

We value our strong partnership with parents, carers and our parish community. Together, we support the spiritual development of our children and celebrate our shared faith.

LIVING OUT FAITH

We run the Faith in Action club for our Year 6 learners who have a chance to deepen their relationship with God. Children participate in discussion during reflection points; they celebrate each reflection point in a special liturgy, and plan projects and fundraising that they would like to implement as part of their faith in action journey. They receive their pin-level award at the end of the programme.
