The Curriculum at St. Augustine's

To be the best we can be

At St Augustine’s we want all children to develop a love of learning, independence and the ability to collaborate and support others.  We want our children to be excited about their learning while at St Augustine’s and for their future lives.  We provide opportunities for them to develop inner confidence and resilience to face new challenges and overcome difficulties.

The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 but uses IPC (International Primary Curriculum) for cross-curricular themes. We aim to provide the pupils with other experiences and opportunities, through day trips and residentials which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school.

The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education and make a positive contribution to society.

We encourage our children to be:

Ready to learn                          Safe

Resilient learners                     Independent

Supportive                                Physically and mentally healthy

Reflective learners                   Happy

Active learners                         Enthusiastic

Ambitious                                 Able to risks in learning

                Respectful of themselves and others

                Respectful of the environment

Focus for learning:

The spiritual development of the child is central to our Catholic ethos.

Planning is built upon the development of knowledge and key skills. It allows teachers to be responsive to the needs of their class and cohort.

Our curriculum is aimed at providing opportunities for deep learning in all areas.

Reading is prioritised as it enables access to the curriculum.

We deliver a rich curriculum where the arts, humanities, physical activity are valued

Cross-curricular links are developed and aim to make learning meaningful and relevant to the real world.

Active learning is promoted throughout the school with a strong focus on collaboration.

A mastery approach is adopted to ensure opportunities for learning are not capped.
