Modern Foreign Languages at St. Augustine's
Intent
Our intent is to ensure that all of our children have the opportunity of experiencing a new culture and language, promoting understanding and respect for others as well as themselves.
Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world after Chinese and English therefore we believe that learning it in KS2, in Years 3 and 4 gives children an advantage for the future. At St Augustine's, Spanish is taught by a native specialist teacher.
French is taught in Years 5 and 6, in preparation for secondary school,. French is also taught by a native specialist teacher.
All children in Key Stage 2 are taught for a half an hour lesson each week using a combination of games, songs and fun activities aimed at developing vocabulary for written and spoken Spanish and French. In addition to making the lessons fun and engaging the focus on grammar supports students with English as well as Spanish and French.
